His family is of Albanian origin from Montenegro and immigrated to the US in the 1960s to escape communism and religious persecution.

Lulgjuraj has prosecuted over 2,000 criminal cases as a prosecutor in Wayne and Macomb County, dealing with cases of organized crime and serious violence.
